The most used backing style to any earring is the Butterfly. Suitable only for Stud style Earrings, you can replace your Butterflies with ease.

Fishwire
Fish Wire, or Shepherd Hook, backings are typically used for hanging earrings, but are more fragile as the wires are typically lesser than 1mm thickness.
